Synopsis:

Set in England's North East against the background of the miners' strike - Billy Elliot is the tale of a motherless boy whose father wants him to take up boxing. Instead, the boy discovers a love for ballet that leads him from secret lessons to a place at the Royal Ballet School.

First appearing in London's West End in 2005, Billy Elliot was nominated for nine Laurence Oliver Awards and won four to include Best New Musical. The production in New York also took home ten Tony Awards and ten Drama Desk Awards including Best Musical for both.
